AMELAND
The journey to Ameland starts at the pier in Holwerd, where cars can be parked in the Parking area (paid parking). The first steps on the muddy Wadden Sea floor may take some getting used to, so we start at a leisurely pace. Due to the increase in mud in recent years, this mudflat hike has become quite challenging. Good physical condition is required to participate in this mudflat hike.
After a varied journey (land reclamation works, mussel beds, channels), you will arrive at Oerderduin on the eastern side of the island after 11 km and 3.5 to 4 hours of walking. From Oerderduin, it is about 2 km to the North Sea beach. Once on the beach, it is possible to be transported by a cart with a tractor to the first beach entrance of Nes. From this beach entrance, it is about a 10-minute walk to the village of Nes. There is also a bus from the beach entrance to the village or to the ferry.
