RONDJE WAD OOST

 
ONE OR TWO ISLANDS IN ONE DAY!

We gather in Lauwersoog, where a bus will take you to the starting point of the hike in the Negenboerenpolder near Broek. From the dike warehouse, you`ll head onto the mudflats. On the way to the deep channel of the Southeast Lauwers, you`ll wade through various tidal creeks and sometimes cross a mudflat. At the beautiful bank of the Southeast Lauwers and the Robbengat, you can enjoy the vastness of the mudflats, with the mainland far away on the horizon. At the channel called Spruit, a ship awaits. This will take you to the area east of Schiermonnikoog. Until recently, the small island Simonszand was here which has disappeared into the sea. It looks like a new island will be created when de easternmost part of Schiermonnikoog, the Blag, breaks in two. This is expected to happen in the coming years. We will take a look in this area and then sail to the south side of de Balg. This is a quiet and rugged area with low dunes. Here, we disembark onto the island. You`ll cross the island to the North Sea, and along the beach, you`ll walk for about 2.5 hours to the beach pavilion De Marlijn. This is where the hike ends. Everyone can then proceed on their own, either walking or taking the bus to the village and/or the ferry.
The ferry operates on fixed schedules back to Lauwersoog.

•    Departure point: Fishing Harbor Lauwersoog, quay next to the fish auction. Address: Haven 16, 9976 VN Lauwersoog
(Parking is available here on Saturdays and Sundays between 07:00-22:00. Other times: paid parking at P1, P2, or P3).
•    Distance: 20 kilometers
•    Duration: 5-6 hours walking, 1.5 hours sailing, ferry back 45 minutes.
•    Difficulty: Strenuous due to the length of the hike
•    Price per person: €65.00. Includes bus to the starting point and boat to Simonszand and Schiermonnikoog. Excludes transportation costs on the island and the ferry back to Lauwersoog

NB: You need to book a ticket for the ferry back to Lauwersoog yourself online or via the payment terminals in the departure hall. To ensure a ticket for the return journey, it is advisable to book in advance via wpd.nl.
